Co-chairs’ Message

Mariette Mulaire

I am proud to co-chair Célébrations 2008. There are so many reasons to celebrate Saint Boniface  this year ! 100 years ago, our small, mostly french-speaking catholic city became a city in its own right, just like its sister city Winnipeg. In 1908, the new City of Saint Boniface was full of promise and optimism. It is this effervescence that we celebrate today !

We have a years’ worth of spectacular programming for you, festivities that will revive the pride Winnipeggers feel about their French Quarter and that will attract  visitors as well. In 2008, be prepared to be seduced by the « je ne sais quoi » of Saint Boniface, a city with a history and charm all its own.

The 100th anniversary of the incorporation of Saint Boniface is an opportunity for all Manitobans to recognize the rich history and vibrant culture of Winnipeg’s French Quarter, which gives Winnipeg a unique charm. As well, we commemorate a number of other important milestones from the past, symbols of the contribution of Saint Boniface both yesterday and today.

We are convinced that the momentum created by Célébrations 2008 will attract new businesses and new families who will see just how great a place Saint Boniface is to raise a family or open a business. Together, let’s celebrate the culture, tradition, passion and vision of Saint Boniface.
